JOB SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Director of Early Childhood Programs, works with the Head Start staff to promote optimal operational functions of the Agency Head Start program.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- In the absence of the Director of Early Childhood Programs, assumes responsibility for staff issues and operation of the Head Start department.
- Works towards learning the proper and timely submission of reports, grant applications, budgets, and other associated administrative requirements.
- Assists the Director of Early Childhood Programs and all pertinent staff in ensuring that the Agency Head Start program meets all requirements of Federal, State, and local laws regarding health, nutrition, safety, curriculum performance standards, licensing, and recruiting.
- Assists the Director of Early Childhood Programs with the hiring, termination, discipline, and training of assigned employees. Obtain the approval of the Executive Director regarding these matters when necessary.
- Learns and assists the Director of Early Childhood Programs in utilizing proper expenditure of funds within assigned areas of responsibility and approves the purchase of necessary supplies and equipment.
- Assists the Director of Early Childhood Programs in coordinating mission support requirements with other Head Start staff members.
- May coordinate Head Start activities with other appropriate/required agencies and educational systems.
- Represent the Agency at various conferences, meetings, workshops, etc., as required.
- Serves as staff liaison with and provides technical assistance to the Head Start Advisory Committee and the various Policy Councils. Helps to ensure that the proper minutes are recorded and compliance with the “Open Meeting Law.”
- This position requires frequent travel to off-site locations.
- Must be proficient in technology, both software and hardware. This includes utilizing KidKare, Child Plus, and Online LAP.
- Perform other Head Start/Early Head Start duties required to accomplish the Head Start/Early Head Start mission.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
The environment is varied to include the Head Start Support office, Head Start Centers, and various Community Resources. Must possess no physical limitations that interfere with performing the duties of the Director of Early Childhood Programs.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
- Bachelor’s Degree within the field of Education, with emphasis in Early Childhood Education and five years’ work experience involving pre-school or elementary education.
- Three years’ experience in an administrative or management capacity with significant involvement in educational or social Head Starts.
- Possess the ability to manage large, diversified areas of responsibility and the personality to excel in Public Relations and to communicate with all facets of the public.
- Be able to exercise a high degree of initiative and independent judgment and possess the capability to write and author letters, correspondence, directives, etc.
DESIRED:
Master’s Degree in the Early Childhood field or Human Development field.Experience in the administration of a Head Start or other Family/Community-oriented Head Start.
